Peszko
I don't know this man
*reads shit*
aha
Koln wide man, 30 years old, has had a career of playing for small clubs in big competitions
Not a particularly notable player, but not many Polish fans will hold that against him, especially now

Re: General Football Thread
His direct opponent today is Robbie Brady
Do Ireland really have so little left backs who are worth something that they have to put a midfielder on left back?

Re: General Football Thread
The Polish here will be happy. Still 1-0. Totally uninspiring performance so far

Re: General Football Thread
Why are Clark and McClean not playing? Surely they're better than Wilson and Whelan?
Re: General Football Thread
They are and better be brought on at half time

Re: General Football Thread
Also, due to the lack of a left back, I'd consider playing 3-5-2 with Coleman shifting to midfield and Clark instead of Brady if I were O'Neill
Re: General Football Thread
We'd still just hoof it. I'd prefer the 3-5-2 but I'm not O'Neill or Keane

Of course it's Long
That man can score a goal
90+1
Stats imply that it's a well-deserved goal

We outplayed Poland in the second half, hit the post twice and Coleman sliced a shot wide.
1-1 fair result

Re: General Football Thread
Well, fuck
One of the biggest talents at Feyenoord isn't going to sign a new contract, which probably means that he'll be sold this summer
He hasn't played too many matches this season, but that stuff can happen if you play at a big club and you're just 20 years old
It is very probable that he'll be going to England, Southampton wanted to buy him last winter already. I think that'd be a good move for him, but I'd have preferred him staying for another year or two.
Oh well, as long as he's not going to Chelsea or some other club where his career is gonna go to waste
His name is Tonny Trindade de Vilhena btw, shirt name Vilhena
Born in Rotterdam, Cape Verdian heritage
He's an attacking midfielder who can score a goal, isn't shy of a bit of defending and tackling and has a magical left foot
We'll hear things from him in the future if he goes to a club where he can develop properly

I need to find replays of all 5 today's goals in Valencia - Zenit
There is one spectacular goal there and 4 "where the fuck was the goalkeeper" goals

Zenit were hugely efficient
Re: General Football Thread
Not true
Zenit had 7 chances that didn't result in goals, Valencia had 4 (they were controlling the ball most of the time, but didn't really accomplish anything with all that posession apart from a bunch of crosses and corners)
10/6 overall

I think it's safe to say that Dundalk is not the weakest team in the group stage.

Re: General Football Thread
Thankfully that's true. Think they'd need another win against Maccabi Tel Aviv just to be sure of getting out of the group. Dundalk's next two games are against Zenit while Alkmaar and Maccabi play each other twice.
Also Dundalk have more points than Manchester United do

Re: General Football Thread
I'm a bit disappointed after yesterday
Feyenoord lost, unfortunately
AZ losing was something I expected, it's just the magnitude of the loss that disappoints me
At least Ajax managed to beat Standard Liège
Previous round was more satisfying for me

Re: General Football Thread
I suppose Feyenoord beating Manchester United was a high.
Though AZ drawing to a semi-pro side in the first round of fixtures wouldn't have been taken too well from some

Yes to both
Feyenoord beating Man U was awesome, made my week
But AZ's draw against Dundalk was disappointing indeed
They really did underachieve, they can play so well which made this even more disappointing
They'll have to do the double over Maccabi to still have a chance at the knockout phase, which is something Dutch football really needs in order to keep our direct CL group phase slot
Re: General Football Thread
You know it's bad when your league performs worse over the course of the last five years than Blegum and Czech Republic
I saw a belge refer to Belgium as Blegum once and I think that the latter name is vastly superior

Yeah. Most people here were expecting Dundalk to finish bottom, actually. AZ may have a good chance of qualifying as Dundalk's next two games are vs Zenit. Can't see AZ or Maccabi talking Dundalk as easy the second time around either

Almost all countries around us have been doing better than us over the past 5 yearsBitterness wrote:You know it's bad when your league performs worse over the course of the last five years than Blegum and Czech Republic

Blegum, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Greece, the lot of em
And with the points from 2012, a very strong year for us, fallng away at the end of the season, we really need some European wins this year
The beginning has been hopeful

But before the return match at Dundalk AZ have to play the double against Maccabi, which is crucial. If they don't get results there, the match against Dundalk is irrelevant
Re: General Football Thread
That's true. Also the fixture pile-up for Dundalk is big. They're playing a game every 3 days until the end of the month afaik.Paleo wrote:I do hope soCotton wrote:Yeah. Also return match is in Dublin. Dundalk's stadium isn't big enough.
