Anyhow, I almost completely disagree with Zexy's sentiment. What's wrong with going with your native language? An English dominated contest would be quite boring frankly. Definitely not Rise Up or Alcohol is Free. One Last Breath maybe, it's a bit boring for Eurovision standards.
It's wrong as in it doesn't work well when you want to achieve a good ranking, statistically-wise. People prefer to vote songs they can relate with, and understanding the lyrics is an important part of that. the less Greek our songs had, the more possible it was to score top 10 (which we did consistently in the past). Good point about them not probably caring about Pontic... but then there is Cyprus... which we indeed treated wrongly lately so we get less points than 12 lately.

Also, Leggo, yeah, lol, the moment ESC is brought up we need this thread :) pls make a Bulba one [s]hope haters hate enough to gimme some interesting reports[/s]

I really don't care about how well we do, the Eurovision is about different cultures meeting together and all that, otherwise if I wanted to hear a whole lotta pop I'd just watch X-Factor ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you look at the last 6 years:
Alchohol is Free, Opa and Watch my Dance were all in Greek, and the latter two were Greek as fuck. They got great votes.
One last Breath, Rise Up and Aphrodisiac where English, generic, whatever. They got voted down.

This isn't an indication of what my opinion was BTW, I hated Watch My Dance and liked Rise Up a lot.

This is all moot because I'm kinda eh about our song too. I guess nobody else is really too hot on it, the decision for internal selection is gonna bite em in the ass.

good points. it's not being generic that counts. Utopian Land still isn't upbeat enough to cut it although it's definitely not generic.

internal selection could indeed be the problem.

yeah, never not qualified is quite an achievement... I'm afraid we'll get our combo breaker sooner than later tho :(

Yes. Instead of 50/50, jury and televoting are separately counted for each country.

Interesting... it may not cause that much of a difference, it kinda IS 50-50 in the big picture. Although it can only make a more varied point distribution and never a less varied one, which helps the low ranks more. But still not MUCH more I guess.

Sounds like the kind of thing they introduce just to make the final stage of the show last longer.

Their reasoning was more make the voting phase more exciting and to make comebacks from second or third more plausible.

Makes sense. Longer = more exciting, especially now that they use a formula that sorts the order in which points will be given live in order to ensure as many comeback twists as possible :)

So I kinda forgot the thingie is tomorrow.

Some thoughts:

I'm kinda going into this "virgin" since I've only listened to ours, my other ours and 26th cousin's "ours" (Greece, Australia and Cyprus)

My opinion of Greece's song has steadily deteriorated over time and I've adopted Zexy's pessimistic approach and think that it's our most likely streak breaker yet for our flawless finals streak.

Australia is great, I like it a lot not much to say other than I'm happy they get to be a regular participator now and are my go to root-for if Greece fucks itself over...

... But Cyprus I'll sorta also root for, their song just isn't as good as Oz's. It's really good, nut Australia's is really good.

Poor Czech Republic has never gone into a final XD

This song has some hopes for that, it's not half bad, the triangle thingy is nice too

I'm seriously sorry for not showing up earlier, but Easter break was over and I had to deal with moving back in Athens, a few assignments and SM news :( And it looks like Leggo isn't around either.

I still prefer to be pessimistic about Greece advancing. Cyprus' was cool, haven't listened to it earlier, would root for it if it advanced (which it should) if Greece doesn't (idk idc really).

Didn't pay too much attention to the other songs because of being distracted as I explained above.

As I listen to the recap, the only ones that I really like were Moldova and Cyprus.
Netherlands' wasn't bad, better than the forgettable stuff out there. One of the few I remembered before the recap.

Some unexpected winners there like Netherlands and Cyprus but the again there wasn't really anything else to fill the slots
